Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable. William Pollard Embedding peer observation Teachers take ownership of their own professional development. Makes use of skills and experience within school Examples from the last academic year: use of songs in 6th form lessons, starters and plenaries Innovation is not just about technology. It is about: improving current practice finding solutions to problems working towards a common goal to move the school forward For any innovation to be successful, it should go hand in hand with staff development, whether formal or informal "The quality of an education system cannot exceed the quality of its teachers“ McKinsey Report 2007 Staff horizon hour / research groups; the best teachers are those engaged in learning themselves Curriculum changes in MFL Overhauled the Year 7 curriculum A move away from the traditional curriculum Clear rationale to give pupils more choice and equalise uptake in the three languages after a dip in the popularity of German The fundamental aim of any school is to provide effective teaching and learning. Any innovation should enhance or improve what we do in terms of teaching and learning. If not, it becomes innovation for the sake of innovation iPads working party Teaching and learning group Teaching and learning bulletin (termly) CPD & SoW working party CPD Book club (Yearly) Led staff training and INSET on use of ICT in the classroom, iPads and strategies for MAG&T pupils Gifted and talented - use of MidYIS data spikes Gifted and talented - monthly challenge and philosophy group Staff Training and INSET Outcomes: Led staff training on use of ICT for interactive learning (Triptico, Task Magic, iPads and different ways to use the Smartboard) identification of Gifted and Talented vs More Able effective use of MidYIS data for MAG&T pupils, including MidYIS spikes What makes an effective Scheme of Work Jane Johnson Director of Educational Innovation King's High School, Warwick Whole School Innovation:
