Athletic Training

Transcript: Advantages and Disadvantages I've been around sports all of my life which is one of the reasons why I would like to become an Athletic Trainer. Another reason is because I've played softball since I was seven but I had to stop because of injuries. I have been through physical therapy twice so I know what it is like. I would like to use my experience to help athletes continue to play the game that they love. The last reason why I would like to become an Athletic Trainer is the traveling. I have always loved to travel and view new places. Being able to do that as part of my job is going to be amazing. Athletic Training The Steps to becoming an Athletic Trainer Disadvantages: ATC's work long and unexpected hours and they move around a lot. Advantages: ATC's in high levels are payed well, they are always around sport and are an important part of the team. Also, they get to travel frequently. by Victoria Henderson Why I would like to become an Athletic Trainer. The Final Steps. What is an Athletic Trainer? After six years of college and a certification I hope to be working my way to the top to eventually become a Certified Athletic Trainer for a professional sports team. What do Athletic Trainers do ? In order to become an Athletic Trainer I would need to get at least a bachelors degree in a health related field like physical education, athletic training, or exercise science. Then you must get your certification from the National Athletic Trainers Association. If you would like to work in the high levels of athletic training a high degree will be needed. Seventy percent of people going into the field of Athletic Training have a masters degree or higher. Personally I would like to attend Florida Gulf Coast to double major in Public Relations and Athletic Training. After I receive my degree I am going to get my certification and then pursue my masters degree in Athletic Training. Athletic trainers are responsible to teach athletes how to properly use equipment and performance techniques in order to prevent injuries. They are expected to be able to work under pressure and have extensive knowledge in the area of first aid. An athletic trainer works with the players to prevent and rehabilitate injuries which means they are expected to be at practices, games, and camps. They travel with the team and often work unexpected hours. Also, their hours can be affected depending on how many players are injured at the time. An ATC or Certified Athletic Trainer is a health care professional who specializes in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that occur from participation in physical activity. An athletic trainer for a professional sports team typically works 14 hours a day including nights, mornings, and weekends. They are paid based on their field, but for the field I would like to enter, which is professional sports, they make anywhere from $80,000 to over $100,000 a year. There are also a high demand for Athletic Trainers because this is a high-stakes, high-profile job.

Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. The person who is running the game will have to have all of the answers in order to determine if players are correct or not. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.

Transcript: Conservation of fishing cat Introduction of fishing cat Health: Fishing cats are susceptible to carnivore protoparvovirus, a disease known to kill them. This disease significantly damages the kidney, spleen and gastrointestinal tract of the body. The fishing cat is also vulnerable to diseases and medical conditions such as feline hemoplasmas, transitional cell carcinoma and canine distemper virus. Conservation Threats Wild life Shamim khan 2225138043 Bs Zoology 2022-2026 Since 2016, the fishing cat is listed as a vulnerable species on the IUCN Red List, as the global population is thought to have declined by around 30% in the years 2010–2015; the destruction of wetlands and killings by local people are major threats to the fishing cat.[1] The destruction of wetlands includes increased pollution or conversion for agricultural use and human settlements. The conversion of mangrove forests to commercial aquaculture ponds is a major threat in Andhra Pradesh, and in some places fishing cats are killed. Over-exploitation of local fish stocks and retaliatory killing by local people are also significant threats. The fishing cat is included on CITES Appendix II and protected by national legislation over most of its range. Hunting is prohibited in Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Hunting regulations apply in Laos. In Bhutan, Malaysia, and Vietnam, it is not protected outside protected areas, and no information is known about its legal protections in Cambodia. It is the state animal of the Indian state of West Bengal. Its survival depends on protection of wetlands, prevention of indiscriminate trapping, snaring and poisoning. fishing cat The fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) is a medium-sized wild cat of South and Southeast Asia. It has a deep yellowish-grey fur with black lines and spots. Adults have a head-to-body length of 57 to 78 cm (22 to 31 in), with a 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12 in) long tail. All the fishing cats kept in zoos around the world are listed in the International Studbook of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums.Zoos in Thailand house around 30 individuals; birth rates are not particularly high. They have been placed in captivity as an "insurance population" due to their vulnerable status in the wild Taxonomy Topic: fishing cat Submitted to: Dr Najiya Al-Arifa Behaviour and ecology Phylogeny: Distribution and habitat: The fishing cat lives among dense vegetation near water and is thought to be primarily nocturnal. It is known to be a proficient long-distance and underwater swimmer. Adult males and females without dependent young are solitary. Females have been reported to range over areas of 4 to 6 km2 (1.5 to 2.3 sq mi), while males range over 16 to 22 km2 (6.2 to 8.5 sq mi). It has been observed resting in thick grassy habitats, often near a water body but sometimes far away from them. Adults have been recorded to vocalise "chuckling" sounds The fishing cat is broadly but discontinuously distributed in South and Southeast Asia. It predominantly inhabits densely vegetated wetlands around slow-moving bodies of water like swamps and marshes. These include low-salinity bodies such as oxbow lakes, and high-salinity ones such as tidal creeks and mangrove forests. Along these bodies of water, it conceals itself within the thick cover of forests, scrublands, reed beds, and grasslands. Most records are from lowland areas. Reproduction and development: Wild fishing cats most likely mate during January and February; most kittens in the wild were observed in March and April. However, fishing cats may mate as late as June. In captivity, the gestation period lasts 63–70 days; females give birth to an average of two to three kittens; the litter size can be as small as one to as large as four.

Transcript: Back to Basics History of an ACL Injury Amédée Bonnet of the Lyon school wrote an evaluation on joint disorders where he analyzed knee injuries in 1845. He described word for word what doctors today call an ACL tear. Georges K. Noulis wrote a thesis in 1875 in which he accurately described the role of the ACL and how the ligament could be tested with the knee in extension. This test was identical to what is know known as the Lachmen test. The Name Common Name ACL Tear Origin of Name ACL = Anterior Cruciate Ligament, the sight of the tear. What is an ACL Injury? A tear in the Anterior Cruciate Ligament. Different Stages of Tearing Grade 1: Sprain- Fibers are stretched. Grade 2: Partial Tear- Fibers are torn. Grade 3: Complete Tear- Fibers are completely torn. Statistics ACL Injuries are becoming more common by the minute Due to higher intensity of physical activities and expanding emphasis on fitness. Growing number of ACL injuries in teens and adolescents over the last 10 years ACL injuries are one of the most common knee injuries among athletes. about 150,000 ACL injuries are reported in the U.S./ year. account for more than a $500 million in U.S. health-care/ year. Women are more vulnerable to it than men. female basketball and soccer players have a higher risk of getting an ACL injury than male basketball and soccer players Ethnicity The WNBA stated that white European-Americans are considered to have a higher risk for the injury than Asian, Hispanic and African-American athletes. Characteristics Mechanism Of Injury The ACL can tear for many different reasons: Short Term Quickly changing direction Sudden stopping Decreasing your speed Landing incorrectly Contact or collision Hyperextension Long Term Overuse Signs and Symptoms Common symptoms though not always reported include: "Pop!" Swelling Extreme pain Tenderness Discomfort Loss of ROM Anatomy An ACL tear is the tear of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament. Location:the center of the knee Connects to the backside of the femur and the front of the tibia Diagnosis, Treatment, And Rehab Diagnostics There are a few ways to diagosis and ACL injury and determine the degree of the injury: Lachman Test Anterior Drawer Test Pivot Shift Test May be used to see how much the tibia moves in relation to the femur. Arthrometer measures joint looseness in the knee X-rays Can show if the injury is associated with a broken bone. MRI. Creates images of soft tissues (ie. ACL).
