Transcript: Conservation of fishing cat Introduction of fishing cat Health: Fishing cats are susceptible to carnivore protoparvovirus, a disease known to kill them. This disease significantly damages the kidney, spleen and gastrointestinal tract of the body. The fishing cat is also vulnerable to diseases and medical conditions such as feline hemoplasmas, transitional cell carcinoma and canine distemper virus. Conservation Threats Wild life Shamim khan 2225138043 Bs Zoology 2022-2026 Since 2016, the fishing cat is listed as a vulnerable species on the IUCN Red List, as the global population is thought to have declined by around 30% in the years 2010–2015; the destruction of wetlands and killings by local people are major threats to the fishing cat.[1] The destruction of wetlands includes increased pollution or conversion for agricultural use and human settlements. The conversion of mangrove forests to commercial aquaculture ponds is a major threat in Andhra Pradesh, and in some places fishing cats are killed. Over-exploitation of local fish stocks and retaliatory killing by local people are also significant threats. The fishing cat is included on CITES Appendix II and protected by national legislation over most of its range. Hunting is prohibited in Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Hunting regulations apply in Laos. In Bhutan, Malaysia, and Vietnam, it is not protected outside protected areas, and no information is known about its legal protections in Cambodia. It is the state animal of the Indian state of West Bengal. Its survival depends on protection of wetlands, prevention of indiscriminate trapping, snaring and poisoning. fishing cat The fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) is a medium-sized wild cat of South and Southeast Asia. It has a deep yellowish-grey fur with black lines and spots. Adults have a head-to-body length of 57 to 78 cm (22 to 31 in), with a 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12 in) long tail. Males are larger than females classification of fishing cat: Scientific classification Domain: Eukaryota Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Carnivora Suborder: Feliformia Family: Felidae Subfamily: Felinae Genus: Prionailurus Species: P. viverrinus Characteristics: The fishing cat has a deep yellowish-grey fur with black lines and spots. Two stripes are on the cheeks, and two are above the eyes running to the neck with broken lines on the forehead. It has two rows of spots around the throat. The spots on the shoulder are longitudinal, and those on the sides, limbs and tail are roundish Endangered in Pakistan: In captivity: Fishing cat captive breeding programmes have been established by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria and the American Association of Zoos and Aquariums. All the fishing cats kept in zoos around the world are listed in the International Studbook of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums.Zoos in Thailand house around 30 individuals; birth rates are not particularly high. They have been placed in captivity as an "insurance population" due to their vulnerable status in the wild Taxonomy Topic: fishing cat Submitted to: Dr Najiya Al-Arifa Behaviour and ecology Phylogeny: Distribution and habitat: The fishing cat lives among dense vegetation near water and is thought to be primarily nocturnal. It is known to be a proficient long-distance and underwater swimmer. Adult males and females without dependent young are solitary. Females have been reported to range over areas of 4 to 6 km2 (1.5 to 2.3 sq mi), while males range over 16 to 22 km2 (6.2 to 8.5 sq mi). It has been observed resting in thick grassy habitats, often near a water body but sometimes far away from them. Adults have been recorded to vocalise "chuckling" sounds The fishing cat is broadly but discontinuously distributed in South and Southeast Asia. It predominantly inhabits densely vegetated wetlands around slow-moving bodies of water like swamps and marshes. These include low-salinity bodies such as oxbow lakes, and high-salinity ones such as tidal creeks and mangrove forests. Along these bodies of water, it conceals itself within the thick cover of forests, scrublands, reed beds, and grasslands. Most records are from lowland areas. Reproduction and development: Wild fishing cats most likely mate during January and February; most kittens in the wild were observed in March and April. However, fishing cats may mate as late as June. In captivity, the gestation period lasts 63–70 days; females give birth to an average of two to three kittens; the litter size can be as small as one to as large as four.

Hydrangea

Transcript: Hydrangea Sienna, Riley, Callie 22/5/2023 About Hydrangea Hydrangea is a nation dedicated to respect, trust, and the value of others. They accept everyone regardless of race, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnicity. The only things that Hydrangea does not tolerate are hate, violence, and crime. They vow to live a life of peace and harmony with nature. About Environment The environment is tropical where everyday is perfect weather. 37 degreees fahrenheit in the winter and 86 degrees fahrenheit in the summer, but because of the humidity, it always feels warmer. The majority of the land is made up of tropical rainforests, but there is some land cleared for farming. The most common animals you will see there are tropical reptiles such as frogs, geckos, and snakes. Predators are rarely seen outside the jungle and do not bother the people or their pets. Environment Map Government Government Hydrangea is a monarchy with a queen named Amaryllis. Every three years representatives from each section come together and discuss how the culture has changed in each section, then the Queen decides to change or keep laws. There are 6 representatives from each section. There are a hundred randomly selected candidates from each section and the top six go to the meeting, this is done to keep any one person from controlling a section. Flag Flag Laws Laws Since Hydrangea is so dedicated to treating everyone with kindness and respect, the laws also follow those same morals. The levels of offense are separated into three categories: Minor (fine/up to 5 years in prison), Medial (5-20 years in prison), and Major (50 years-life in prison). No death penalty is inflicted upon any prisoner. Instead, the prison officers focus more on rehabilitation. There are daily group therapy sessions, as well as “calming” rooms and one-on-one therapy sessions. Currency Currency The currency of Hydrangea is shaped like cartoon flowers. There are pink, yellow, and white coins. The coins are called Seeds, Sprouts, and Blooms. Blooms, the pink, are worth the most (worth $10). Seeds, white, are worth the least (worth $1). Sprouts, yellow, are in the middle of the price range (worth $5). Pictures 10 basic laws/rules Hate against a specific group of people will be punished severely Cars will only be electric, no gasoline The consumption of meat is illegal Electronic devices are only allowed inside buildings Poaching is immediately equal to life in jail Deforestation is immediately equal to life in jail Education is required through 12th grade Hospitals may not require a payment for their service Acts of violence are not tolerated, no matter how small it is Littering will be sentenced to an amount of years in prison 10 rules Education School weeks are four day weeks and the school days are from 9 to 2. The children are exposed to a variety of arts forms, as well as math, science, and farming. College is free, as is healthcare. Colleges also vary depending on what section they are in; just like Harvard and Yale are elite colleges in America, there are elite colleges in different sections which focus on that specific art/business. Education Transportation Transportation People mostly do not have cars because of their history with technology, so everyone uses bikes, skate, walk/run/jog, or sooters, but the most common transportation is by horse. There are a lot of horse stables around the island. When people need to travel far they will use a electric vehicle that is kept in the city. There are only electric vehicles because gasoline is not good for the environment. Using electric vehicles is considered a rare luxury. Technology Technology is almost never used except for medical purposes and long distance trips. Other than that people prefer being immersed in nature, as in being outside, gardening, swimming, and hiking. Technology Entering jobs Coming of age When children come of age, they can choose from different “Sectors” of this utopia. There are 5 main sectors: Creative writing, Media art (painting, drawing, photography), acting/drama, and culinary arts. Math and science also make up a section, but, based on how these children are raised, there are less people living in that section. People can move sections whenever they feel so inclined, and there are different parts to each section (Medium arts section has a drawing part/town, a painting town, a photography town, etc). There is also a large agriculture section dedicated to farming and food production. Employment The jobs depend on which sector a person lives. For example, in one there is a number of people who draw and paint for a living, but in another section, there are people who are professional cooks for a living. Because jobs dealing with art are so common in this utopia, jobs such as electricians, plumbers, teachers, etc. are paid extra. They live in a special city next to the Capital and are sent out to the different sections depending on who needs it the most. The

An angiosperm is a "flowering plant", or a plant that holds seeds inside of an ovary Hydrangeas are NOT seedless. Hydrangeas need seeds to sprout up into a flower. This plant is not seedless because, one, it needs a seed to grow into its self, and two, it has seeds in them to create more hydrangeas. Hydrangeas are also not an invasive species. Hydrangeas are native plants. WHAT IS HYDRANGEA?: Getting to know our plant. The hydrangea is a vascular plant. I know this because it does have a functioning system that is strong enough to face cooler weather and more heated weather. Also, Hydrangea roots spread out enough to gather what water it needs. The hydrangea is a very easy to tend plant. Photo: in the details of the hydrangea Hydrangea looks like bunches of little flowers pushed together to form a small circle of flowers. Hydrangea is a dicot. This is because it has parallel vains. Also, since this flower is bunched with multiple flowers, you can tell that its a dicot. Its pores in pollen are also in threes, classifing it further. The hydrangea plant can be found almost anywhere. They can be found naturally in eastern Asia, western Central, eastern North America and South America Baby steps to learning about hydrangea
