Transcript: Group Effort! Mr. Hersey, Mr. Hansen, Mr. Priest and Mrs. Priest's sons also came to help. Mrs. McGill's Minecraft class helped make gaming projects too! We used the Engineering & Design Process Proposal Bright Idea Society Award What is a Makey Makey? We submitted a proposal for the Bright Idea Society Award. We planned to create an interactive booth using Makey Makey invention kits. At the end of Jan., we heard we won. 3 posters were re-imagined to "talk." We used MIT's Scratch to program these. This poster said things like, "Don't touch my glasses!" & "That tickles." Bring a "Bright Idea" to life and show it at the San Diego Science & Engineering Festival at Petco Park on Sat., Mar. 4 Award: Get a booth: $700 value $500 stipend to create the project Bus transportation Bright Idea Society shirts We sketched out our plans & revised them Bright Idea Society Award 2017 Light Up "STEM" Board We contacted Makey Makey for help to get ideas of how to create this. Mr. Hersey and Mr. Hansen helped us bring the idea to life. A Makey Makey is an invention kit that turns everyday objects into keyboards or gaming controllers. Our Projects Mrs. Priest's Maker Studio Elective Diego was our project manager. Students came in at lunch to work on this project with 24 circles to code and create circuits for. "Talking" Art Musical Twister Board Ms. Mallory had students work in her room at lunch every day for 2 weeks.

Transcript: We were asked to determine the minimum size of the photovoltaic system required to meet the energy needs of the companies multiple facilities. Each building has a room area of 1,500 m^2 and has an energy requirement of 2,800,000 kWh/year. The Preliminary Task LOCATION 1 Longmont, CO To make the required amount of energy to power the facility the would need 1,421 m^2 of solar planes. This would work for the facility, but it is more feasible to have a 100% geothermal powered facility because it is a class 1 hot spot. LOCATION 3 Cedar Rapids,IA LOCATION 2 Utica, NY LOCATION 4 Yuma, AZ By: ByBee and CO. Yuma is a very good choice for solar power it would only take 1145 m^2 to meet the minimum requirement for power. But, it also has an amazing class 1 source of geothermal power, so a good compromise would be 50% solar and 50% geothermal. To meet the required power for the facility Utica would need an extra 327 m^2 of roof area. Because of that it should be powered by 100% biomass, for it is the best choice. This is the best choice, even though it only has about 100-150 thou. tonnes/yr, because Utica doesn't have much of anything else. Bright Idea Cedar Rapids is a reasonable choice for solar power, but has better options. It would take 1421 m^2, almost all of the roof space, just to meet the requirement. The best option would be using 60% geothermal power and 40% biomass fuel. Because the geothermal is a class 3 and biomass is producing 150-200 thou. tonnes/yr

When fluorescent bulbs are broken, mercury escapes and is bad for your health. Also, fluorescent bulbs are more expensive than others. Fluorescent bulbs are phosphor-coated glass tubes filled with an inert gas and a small amount of mercury. Halogen bulbs do not use mercury, last longer, and use 50% less energy that incandescent.
